I remember Romain fondly over these past years as a patient and humorous teacher who help to grow in me, the seed of interest in what has become a passion, this sport of petanque.
Romain Felix Arend (January 31, 1921 - August 4, 2008)
Romain's obituary reads as follows:
Romain Felix Arend, age 87, a resident of Harrison Township, Michigan died on Monday, August 4, 2008 at Argentine Health Care, Linden, MI. He was born on January 31, 1921 in Nilvange, France.
Mr. Arend became a barber at the young age of 17 while in France. After marrying in 1942 he moved to the United States and continued as a barber in Mount Clemens for over 30 years at Bill Bade’s Barbershop. He will be remembered as an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and playing petanque (a French version of bocce ball).
He is survived by his wife of 65 years Jeanne (nee Weber) Arend, daughter Claudine (Angel) Elicerio of Swartz Creek, MI, son Philippe (Sharon) Arend of Allouez, MI, brother Dumas (Rose) Arend of France, 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents Mathias and Rosa (nee Hamer) Arend and ten siblings.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2008 from 2:00p.m. until 8:00p.m. in the Harold W. Vick Funeral Home, 140 South Main Street, Mount Clemens. Share memories with the family at http://www.vickfuneralhome.com/
